Wedding Reception

The most beautiful girl
stays across the room
stands in the snowflakes
of drinks and attention

If only there could be
more than a beer on a table
a wadded fetal napkin
or some leftover crumbs on a plate

Your hair and your smile
are something I'd see
in the window of the finest store front
hands on the glass, I dare not knock

If only this open bar would explode,
cascade with overflowing sunshine,
cups of anticipation from your breath;
a whisper warm against my face
